Popular Hip-Hop Deejay Dj Megatron Tried To Score Pot Before He Was Killed

The popular hip-hop deejay shot dead on Staten Island was on his way to buy marijuana, police sources said Monday.

DJ Megatron, 32, whose real name was Corey McGriff, was talking with a friend on Sunday when his cell phone suddenly went dead, police sources said. McGriff told the friend he was about to buy pot.

The friend thought McGriff had ended the conversation abruptly, but cops now believe he was either shot or saw his shooter.

The Daily News reported Monday that McGriff was going to buy a Dutch Master, a cheap cigar sometimes used to make a marijuana blunt.

Police are looking at the possibility that his killing was related to the attempted drug deal. No marijuana was found on McGriff.

Police haven't ruled out other possible motives. Menacing messages were posted as comments on McGriff's YouTube videos about three months ago.

As cops probed, the hip-hop world mourned. "Rest in peace," chart-topping rapper Nicki Minaj wrote. "I just want his family & loved ones 2 know how Brilliant he was," Terrence J, co-host at BET's "106 & Park," tweeted.
