Watch Painter Maqbool Fida Husain dies in London of heart attack news



London:Husain was admitted in the Royal Brompton Hospital for several days and died around 2.30 am this morning. He was 95.
He breathed his last in Royal Brompton hospital.
Maqbool Fida Husain, one of India’s best-known artists, has died in a London hospital.
Hussain had been suffering from age-related ailments for some months and had been in hospital. His last rites would be conducted in London and not in India, the sources said.
His sons and daughter were with him when he died.
Mr Husain was among the earliest Indian painters to command huge prices at international auctions. He has received several major national awards like including the Padma Vibhushan.
In 1947, he joined the Progressive Artists' Group, founded by Francis Newton Souza.
In 1952, his first solo exhibition was held at Zürich and over the next few years, his work was widely seen in Europe and the US.
In 1955, he was awarded the prestigious Padma Shree prize by the Government of India.
According to Forbes magazine, he has been called the "Picasso of India".
